Day 21- 21-Day Sugar Detox Recap

So today was my official final full day of my 21-Day Sugar Detox. It feels great having finished this challenge! Because I could eat a lot of other amazing and fulfilling foods, I didn't feel deprived or that I was on some sort of diet.
The one thing that made today hard, was knowing its Thanksgiving tomorrow. It made it tempting to start feasting early- especial when I went and picked up our pie and cake for tomorrow! But I resisted and will have my cake tomorrow!

Breakfast- sweet potato & sausage hash with two fried eggs.
Lunch- chipotle- steak salad.
Snack- pistachios and a banana
Snack- raw cocoa with almonds, and sunbutter. Trying to have a "treat" without breaking my sugar free detox.
Dinner- leftover beef with broccoli and carrot stir fry.

Exercise- crossfit. I totally tore my arms up with flipping the tires today. I felt weak on this part of our workout. But I felt great on my back squats!

Best part of my day- making a Paleo pumpkin pie with the kids! They (and my hubby) all ate it and loved it! I was a proud Mommy! I got the recipe from Everyday Paleo family cookbook! I didn't try it myself (yet), but it look an smelled amazing!

Today I am thankful for my family's safety. We are blessed!

This past weekend my family and I went to the Date Festival and I found a company that makes chocolate covered dated and stuffed dates, and other axing creations! I am so getting these soon to indulge in!

Day 15&16- 21- Day Sugar Detox Recap

So yesterday I was stuck at a movie theater watching the premier of Breaking Dawn, part 2- (so sad...) so I didn't post about my day. But I can say yesterday and today both went well and were successful sugar detox days!

I had the amazing pumpkin cake in a mug with chocolate whip again yesterday and boy does that fill you up! I noticed it the first time I had and then again yesterday. It totally curbs any craving you may be having and it fill up your belly so that your full and satisfied! I'm a huge fan!

I ate basically all leftovers the past two days, so I won't bore you with the details. I am happy with how this detox is going. I honestly don't want to stop it after 21 days! I'm planning on making my Thanksgiving feast as Paleo and sugar free as possible- ill have some grains for my hubby and kids though! I will probably cheat a little but honestly I don't want or feel like I need to go crazy on this day.

Until tomorrow!

Day 14- 21-Day Sugar Detox Recap

I think today went well. I feel like my body is "normalizing"- finding is balance and happy spot! I don't have spikes in my energy and I feel like I have so much control over my sugar cravings. I'm losing my "temptations", which totally rocks!

Breakfast- left over spaghetti squash sausage stuffed goodness!
Pre-Workout- 2 hard boiled eggs with a little coconut butter (YUM)!!
Lunch- leftover pork and carrots.
Snack- pumpkin cake with chocolate cream- this came from PaleOMG.com. If you don't subscribe to this girls blog, you should- she's all about the Paleo treats!
Dinner- Greek stuffed eggplant with sausage.

Exercise was crossfit. It wasn't the best workout- in other words I didn't feel like I needed a shower after! I think I'll start basing my workout on if they required a shower after! If I shower after than you KNOW I worked hard! ;)

Best part if my day was probably the pumpkin cake with chocolate cream. I know it sounds bad- but it's the truth!

Today I am thankful for long pants and long sleeved shirts and jackets! It's the perfect weather here right now!

Day 12- 21-Day Sugar Detox Recap

Today is Monday- and we all had the day off school and work because of Veteran's Day.
So today was all about family!
We took a 3 hour hike up the one and only mountain near us. It was a killer, but I'm so proud of us all for pushing through the steep climb! Even my 3 year old did it (with lots of help)!
My belly is full of good food that I ate today, and I'm sooo ready for bed!
Breakfast- Leftovers of the stuffed carnival squash from yesterday.
Snack during hike- banana and handful of raw almonds.
Lunch- Chicken curry with brocoli, cauliflower and snap peas.
Dinner- crock pot pork tenderloin and roasted brussel sprouts.
Snack/Dessert- something I've been dying to make from PaleOMG.com, http://paleomg.com/sugar-detox-sweet-potato-ice-cream-toasted-walnuts/, Sweet Potato Ice-Cream with toasted walnuts!
It was delicious! I will totally be making this again. If ya'll don't have an ice-cream maker, I totally recommend buying one! It's so nice to be able to make your own healthy ice-cream right at home!

Exercise- hike with family.

Best part of my day- hike with family.

Today I am thankful for- Nature! It was so great spending a few hours in it today, with of course, my family! :)

My 3 cute kids!
Tomorrow is a new day! I am looking forward to some good food (I'm sure mostly leftovers), and good exercise, as well as making the most of my day; whatever may come!

Day 11- 21-Day Sugar Detox Recap

Yeah! We are officially half way through this detox. I can feel that my body is regulating my sugar cravings. My energy levels are pretty steady. However I have been indulging in as many "naps" as I can get these days. I keep reading how important sleep is for weight loss and muscle recovery- so I'm taking all I can get!

Pre-Workout- 1 hard boiled egg and half banana.
During workout- 1 packet of baby food1 squash & banana.
Pre-workout- 1 hard boiled egg and half banana.
Brunch- stuffed carnival squash- sausage, mushrooms, onions, 1/2 green apple, spinach, & seasonings- YUMMY!!!
Lunch- tomato, avocado and egg lettuce wraps.
Snack- pistachios- LOTS & LOTS of pistachios!!! I probably should stop buying these- I can't seem to stop eating them!
Dinner- spaghetti squash with leftover stuffing mix from my carnival squash brunch.

Exercise today was a 13 mile run with two friends. It was a slow pace but felt really good. My energy was great suing the run an my stomach didn't get upset afterwards! Yeah!

Best part of my day was my run. I was so nervous going to far and not knowing how my body would react to my Paleo and Sugar Detox. But it went better than I expected! So happy about this!

Today I am thankful for all the Veteran's. Happy Veteran's Day!

Day 10- 21-day sugar detox recap

Today went pretty good. I was a little more hungry during the day, so I had a couple snacks, but was really full after dinner- which prevented any desire for a late night snack.

Breakfast- leftover zucchini pancakes with a side of bacon.
Lunch- leftover sausage and spinach over spaghetti squash.
Snack- pistachios- a few handfuls!
Snack- green apple with almond bitter
Dinner- baked salmon over Brussels. This was a new meal I found on my awesome app Fast Paleo. This app is a must for anyone eating Paleo!

Exercise today was a 14 minute AMRAP crossfit workout.

Best part of my day was spending the day with my family. We had a very lazy Saturday at home. Sometimes it's nice to do nothing but be together!

Today I am thankful for my husband. He supports me in all I do- thinks I'm the best at everything I do, and loves me even when he shouldn't!

Tomorrow marks my half way point through my sugar detox!!! I'm excited to have successfully finished this- at this point I don't see me failing. I do hope that I'll lose weight on this, but I know it's going to take longer than 21 days for me to reach my weight goal. What I'd love to master is the art of maintaining my goal weight. I seem to only maintain my weight for a very short period before either I go on vacation or get injured or just basically give up and go back to my old habits. I really want to master my weight! Ugh! I hope this time I can!

Day 9- 21-Day Sugar Detox Recap

Today is Friday! TGIF!
I had a productive day, kids were great and I am now ready for bed!

Breakfast- I made something new- zucchini pancakes from the 21DSD guide. I had these along side of sautéed Kale (ya I love Kale)!
Post-workout snack- pistachios.
Lunch- roast beef and sweet potatoes with grass fed butter! I finally found Kerrygold butter at SAMs club! I am so excited about this!
Snack- baked apple- found recipe on http://www.paleomg.com. It was a pretty yummy snack!
Dinner was a new recipe- spaghetti squash with sausage and spinach. My hubby and I ate this and the kids had leftovers!

Exercise was spin class at the YMCA.

Best part if my day was grocery shopping at SAMs and Fry's. I was excited to buy new veggies to play with for another week! Also stoked about the grass-fed butter- which I've already talked about! ;)

Today I am thankful for my job and my hubby's job! It was Payday today! Yeah!!

Day 8- 21-Day Sugar Detox Recap

Today was pretty good. My only complaint was some major painful chaffing I got in my 5 mile run and yhis weird stomach ache I had for most of the afternoon. Ugh!

Pre-workout (for 5 mile run)- 1/2 green apple and almond butter.
Breakfast- my final serving of Kale & Mushroom quiche along with sweet potato with coconut butter.
Snack- 1-2 apple and handful of almonds.
Lunch- roast beef and sweet potatoe with coconut butter...(yeah I was liking this combination today).
Snack- Naked Coconut water and trail mix if roasted nuts (no peanuts or colorful candied chocolates...darn).
Dinner- 3 fried eggs and Kale sautéed in coconut oil.

Exercise today was an early morning 5 mile run with my best friend Doorly. Then I went to the YMCA and did a TBC (total body conditioning) workout then a Pilates class. Needless to say I was tired! I may have overdone the exercise portion of my day today...

Best part of my day- I actually have two. First was hanging out with my baby Jack. He and I went shopping for a new toy (he had a gift card left from his birthday), and then we went to the gas station for an Icee. He just happens to be the cutest 3 year old I know and everything he does and says makes me happy!
My second favorite part if the day was going to my second child Nick's class to see him get an academic award for the first quarter. I am so proud of him!

Today I am thankful for medicine- especially Vaseline!

Day 7- 21-day Sugar Detox Recap

Today was another good day!
I have a lot of veggies in my fridge that need to be eaten before they go bad; so today I tried to eat more veggies.

Breakfast- kale & Mushroom quiche with a side of curry lemon cucumber.
Post-Workout snack- almond butter with celery sticks.
Lunch- sautéed kale, zucchini and leftover roast beef.
Snack- pumpkin granola with coconut milk.
Dinner- Salmon lettuce wraps with avocado.

Exercise today was at my local YMCA. I did a spin class and a yoga class.

Best part of my day was spent with my daughter reading the American Girl doll book Meet Felicity. These are books I had as a little girl. I saved them all these years for just this- to read them with my little girl!

Today I am thankful for my testimony of Jesus Christ and that we have a living prophet. It is hard living in an uncertain world. But with the gospel in my life and my testimony, I have faith that good will prevail and that we all can have peace and love in our lives!

Day 6- 21-Day Sugar Detox Recap

Today was a pretty good day! I didn't have any major ups or downs, it was just a good day- I can't complain!

Pre-Workout snack- tablespoon of almond butter and a chunk of roast beef. It wasn't the most awesome combo but I just needed some fat and protein to get me ready to run!
Breakfast- Kale & Mushroom quiche and pumpkin "nut" meal- which is the new name to my new favorite sugar free Paleo meal. I think I've made this recipe even more easy for everyone to copy, here ya go:
1/4 c. Pecans
1/4 c. Slivered Almonds
1/4 c. Coconut milk
1/4 c. Pumpkin purée
1/2 frozen banana
Mix all ingredients in blender until blended to a slightly chunky consistency. Put into a small bowl and microwave for 1-2 minutes. Add cinnamon on top! Yummy!
Lunch- tuna & avocado lettuce wraps.
Snack- Coco-Nut Banana smoothie.
This included:
1 c. Coconut milk
2 tablespoons of almond butter
1/2 frozen banana
4-5 ice-cubes
1 handful of baby spinach
This smoothie was very filling and could probably be a meal than a snack.
Dinner- leftover roast beef and onions.

Exercise today was a 6 mile run.

Best part of my day- bedtime! My hubby was gone tonight so everything was on me to get homework done, cook dinner, feed kids, bathe kids and get kids to bed. Needless to say, my best moment was when they all were in bed!

Today I am thankful for our freedom to vote! Today was Election Day- and I totally rocked the vote! I hope you did too!

Day 5- 21-Day Sugar Detox Recap

Yeah! I made it through another day- and today was tough!!! I had the munchies all day and had a few moments of Mommy Anxiety! Mommy Anxiety is when I feel like I can't do anything right, everything is falling apart and I've got 4 people begging for my attention. I was stuck at home all day which never helps with the munchies!

Breakfast- Kale & Muchroom quiche from The Whole 30 program , and two Coconut Flour Muffins left over from last night. This morning I added butter and cinnamon to the muffins and they were much better!
Lunch- salad with chicken, avocado and tomatoes. Balsamic vinegar as my dressing.
Snack- green apple with almond butter. I also had a big handful of homemade roasted pumpkin seeds.
Dinner- leftover pot roast, onions and sweet potato with coconut butter & cinnamon. I made sure to eat till I was full for this meal. I wanted my food journal for the day to be OVER! Really the whole day to be done...you get my point!

Exercise today was- nothing! I made today my rest day. Thinking back I wonder is this also contributed to my bad day...

Best part if my day- ticking my baby Jack Jack, playing trains and getting to be his Mom! I really do love being a Mom!

Today I am thankful for my husband! He and I have been married for 10 years! We don't always agree but I know that no matter what he would do anything to make me happy!

Until tomorrow!

Day 4- 21-Day Sugar Detox

Today is Sunday. Sundays are always hard days for me to stay on track- but I did it today!
I catch myself trying to go back to my bad habits- craving candy (which is all over our house thanks to Halloween), and wanting to give in, telling myself one thing won't hurt. But the truth is, one slip up does hurt my progress and it hurts my confidence.

Pre-Workout Snack- 1 hard boiled egg & 1/2 avocado.
Breakfast- Paleo pumpkin oatmeal & scrambled eggs. *I am in LOVE with this Paleo pumpkin oatmeal! I want to eat it for every meal! So yummy!
Snack- green apple with almond butter.
Lunch- top sirloin roast, broccoli, and a coconut flour muffin from the 21-day sugar detox recipe guide. I was highly disappointed by these; they were so dry, I could barely swallow them...ugh!
Dinner- leftover shrimp with lemon cream sauce over spaghetti squash. I love my easy leftovers!

My exercise today was a 10 mile run with my friend Maritza. It was a tough run today, I felt like I was dragging, but I did it!

Best part of my day was spending time with my hubby and kids, and going to church and seeing my best friends baby blessed! Also the kids and I had fun in the kitchen today making pumpkin chocolate chip cookies and roasted pumpkin seeds! I love using fresh pumpkin!

Today I am thankful for the Gospel in my life! I don't know where I'd be without it. I'm a Mormon and proud to be! Http://www.lds.org.

Saturday, November 3, 2012

Day 3- 21-Day Sugar Detox

Today is Saturday.
Weekends are so hard! Usually Friday-Sunday I splurge in all the goodies I've gone without during the week. So I'm happy that I've survived another day!
Breakfast- pumpkin hot cereal (pecans, almonds, pumpkin, banana, and coconut milk- blended together in my VitaMix, then warmed up in the microwave with cinnamon sprinkled on top. This was delicious! With 3 hard boiled eggs. I added some coconut butter to the eggs and YUMMY!
Lunch- left over Shrimp & Spaghetti squash from yesterday.
Snack- pumpkin granola with coconut flakes. This, by the way, isn't very tasty..it's missing the pure maple syrup, so not only did it not crisp up like granola should but now it's just soft and damp. I won't be making another batch if this.
Dinner- chicken, avocado and tomato lettuce wraps with yellow zucchini squash.

My exercise today was a 4 mile run and a 20 minute crossfit workout.

My favorite part of my day was my 2 hour nap! But if I'm not being selfish it would have been when the kids and I gutted our pumpkins so that we can make roasted pumpkin seeds tomorrow and maybe a Paleo Pumpkin dessert!

What I am thankful for today- sleep!

Friday, November 2, 2012

Day 2- 21-Day Sugar Detox

Today was a good day! No headache and I made a couple new recipes that turned out pretty good!
Breakfast- Brussels with 3 fried eggs.
Lunch- shrimp with a lemon cream sauce over spaghetti squash.
Snack- pumpkin granola over a baked green apple.
Dinner- BLT salad with a hard boiled egg.
Snack- pumpkin granola with coconut flakes.

My exercise today consisted of a 30 minute incline speed walk on the treadmill with about 10 minutes of hand weights, upper body.

The best part of my day was watching my husband make chocolate chip cookies with the kids! As soon as he walked in the door from work he wanted to make cookies with the kids. I don't think this had ever happened in our 10 years of marriage!

Day 2 of what I'm thankful for- running and yoga. I'm grateful I have a strong body that allows me to do these things that I do love. I've been injured before and it took me away from these things. I am thankful I am strong!

Day 1- 21-day Sugar Detox

I did it- finished my first day- only 20 more days to go! Lol
Breakfast was easy- 3 eggs, 1/2 avocado, and leftover roasted Brussels.
Lunch was a quick chicken curry- coconut milk, green curry, fish sauce with veggies and chicken.
Snack was a banana and some roasted pumpkin seeds.
Dinner was leftover chicken curry.

I felt that I did really well on my food today. I wasn't hungry and it was only after lunch that my craving for some Halloween candy hit. I steered off this craving by working on my Scentsy and then having my snack.
My only complaint about today was the sharp painful headache that I got this evening just before dinner. It hasn't gone away either...I am thinking this headache may be the sugar leaving my body. I know it's probably in shock not getting all the sugar it was used to the day before (Halloween)!

My exercise today consisted of a 4 mile rub and 45 minutes of Pilates.

My favorite part of my day was spent with my 2nd child. I went to his school and sat with him during lunch, then he and I "played" together outside during the lunch recess. The smiles in his face and the hugs and kisses I get from this little boy are priceless to me. He makes me so happy and proud!

Being that its Thanksgiving this month, I also want to share with you each day something that I am thankful for. Today I am thankful for my family's health. Overall we are good, healthy people. We are very blessed.

Until tomorrow!
